One side of the crook rest is raised higher than the other helping to hold the rod securely in place against strong currents and winds. The smooth contours and an extra deep slot in the rest help to reduce the chances of getting the line accidentally trapped and is also ideal for touch legering, as it allows the line to run freely. For this style of rod rest, the strike should always be made up and away from the raised side.
